Abstract

This article examines morphonemic phenomenon in Larantuka Malay (LM). This research uses the qualitative descriptive method and data was collected using the proficient observation method.  The results of data analysis show that the morphonemic phenomenon in LM includes phoneme deletion, such as the release of a consonant sound at the end of a word, deletion at the beginning of a word,  deletion of sound at the end and  change of vowel sound, the release and change of the vowel sound, release of initial, final and changes in final sound, dropping of sounds at the end and replacement of vowel, elimination of consonant at the beginning and end, replacement of nasal, the release of the consonant sound /h/ phoneme change such as change in vowel phoneme, change in consonant, change in sound and elimination of phoneme, release of sound as a contraction, loss of, change, and addition of sound, and monophthongization.
